The customer required a design and build contractor to develop an existing reception, cafe and meeting room complex.
The brief was to create a visible statement to reinforce The AMPTC (Advanced Manufacturing Park Technology Centre) as a world class facility and to provide additional opportunities on how the space could be used.
Our design was developed through discussions with the client and through multiple visits to site to observe how the areas were being used.
The main focal point of the design was a meeting pod which extends out from the existing balcony without any part of the structure restricting the use of the ground floor below. This highly visible architectural feature draws attention from the road outside the building and has proven to be a useful and popular venue.
The Café was designed to be an extension of the Reception area and one that flows from one to the other. Subtle changes in finishes and lighting creating a more relaxed feel as the Café area is entered.
Folding external doors were installed to the Café to link the space with the patio outside and create more of an open air feel internally when weather permits.
Flexibility was a key requirement for the Breakout Space adjacent the Meeting Rooms. This was provided by a sliding wall to enable full enclosure of the area by its closing and the appearance of being part of the larger balcony space by its disappearing into a pocket screen.
Comfortable and sound insulated meeting rooms are screened from the balcony space by the use of double glazed frameless partitions while a degree of privacy was provided by coloured and frosted film manifestation which carried styling cues from the angular features of the meeting pod.
The lighting installation was an integral part of the overall design and forms key architectural features.
An interesting and functional Board Room was the brief for an existing room which lacked character and was oversized for its intended use. This was addressed by the installation of walnut veneered fitted furniture and the dividing of the room with a glass wall into a more suitably sized Board Room and a new Ante Room.
Improved access and egress for the additional First Floor Meeting Spaces was provided by a bespoke steel and structural glass stair.
Loose furniture was carefully chosen to complement the style and quality of the areas.
